An excellent test with Sauber
Last Friday in Austin I once again had the opportunity to race with Sauber, of which – as you all know – I am the official third driver. Everything went well. I raced with assurance and obtained a good time, only four tenths behind Sauber’s first driver. I completed about twenty laps and felt in perfect control of the car, even amid complicated meteo conditions. I was lucky because the asphalt was wet but not to an excess: I was able to keep a regular pace and to avoid mistakes, which led to my good result. It is paramount, for me, to make the most out of every F1 opportunity I get to show what I am made of – and I think that last Friday I’ve hit the target. I am happy, and I also have to say that driving under such a downpour has been fun; I also was able to gather data that will be useful to the team as they prepare for Sunday’s race. I felt valuable and important, and I fulfilled my task: helping the team. At the wheel I felt calm and at ease. This year my focus is not only on the GP2, but on the F1 as well: I have to be ready and seize every opportunity I am given. Just like I did in the USA!

Ottimo test con la Sauber
Venerdì scorso ad Austin ho avuto nuovamente la grande opportunità di scendere in pista con la Sauber, scuderia di cui, come sapete, sono il terzo pilota ufficiale. Ebbene… è andata bene! Ho infatti staccato un tempo di 4 decimi inferiore rispetto al pilota titolare, girando con sicurezza. Ho portato a termine una ventina di giri, controllando perfettamente la macchina sotto l’acqua e in condizioni meteo complicate. Sono anche stato fortunato, era bagnato ma non troppo e sono riuscito a girare con una certa continuità, senza errori e ottenendo interessanti risultati cronometrici. Per me è importante sfruttare ogni occasione per mettermi in mostra in Formula 1 e credo di aver centrato l’obiettivo. Sì, sono felice. Mamma mia quanta acqua! Devo però aggiungere che è stato anche divertente. Senza contare che guidare in queste condizioni mi ha permesso di raccogliere dati utili alla scuderia in vista della gara di domenica. Mi sono davvero sentito utile e importante. Ho aiutato il team e questo è il mio compito. Come mi sono trovato al volante? Bene, a mio agio e molto tranquillo. È andato tutto davvero ottimamente. Oltre alla GP2 quest’anno la mia testa è concentrata anche sulla F1: devo essere bravo a farmi trovare sempre pronto in modo, come ho detto prima, da sfruttare ogni opportunità che mi viene concessa. Proprio come è accaduto negli USA!
