FOURTH PLACE FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO IN HIS FIA WEC SEASON DEBUT
Raffaele Marciello’s 2025 World Endurance Championship season began with a splendid fourth place at the 1812km Qatar. The Swiss driver continued his endurance world championship commitment with BMW M Team WRT in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8, taking part in the Hypercar category for the second year running. For this season Marciello is joined by Belgian Dries Vanthoor and Danish ex-Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen.
The qualifying phase was entrusted to Vanthoor, who was able to break into the top 10 by entering the second qualifying phase. The Belgian recorded a time of 1:38.495, valid for second place.
Magnussen had the task of starting the race, losing one position during the start. The Dane held third place for a long time, until a virtual safety car phase after which he was unable to deactivate the speed limiter, slipping to the back of the field also due to a drive-through caused by contact with another car. Marciello got into the car soon after, setting a good pace and making up ground on his rivals. Thanks to strategy and several safety cars, the #15 BMW was able to climb up to sixth place. During the last stop, the team decided not to change tyres, gaining precious seconds and moving up to fourth place, the position in which the team finished the race.
A very good start then for Raffaele Marciello and his teammates, who leave Qatar with 12 points in the classification and as the first car behind a Ferrari that monopolised the race and the podium. The next appointment with the endurance world championship will be the 6h of Imola, on 20th of April 2025 on the Easter weekend.
QUARTO POSTO PER RAFFAELE MARCIELLO AL DEBUTTO STAGIONALE NEL FIA WEC
Inizia con uno splendido quarto posto alla 1812km del Qatar la stagione 2025 del World Endurance Championship di Raffaele Marciello. Il pilota svizzero ha proseguito il suo impegno nel mondiale di durata con il BMW M Team WRT a bordo della BMW M Hybrid V8 #15, prendendo parte alla categoria Hypercar per il secondo anno consecutivo. Per questa stagione Marciello è affiancato dal belga Dries Vanthoor e dal danese ex-Formula 1, Kevin Magnussen.
La fase di qualifica è stata affidata a Vanthoor, il quale è stato capace di entrare nei primi 10 accedendo alla seconda fase di qualifica. Il belga ha registrato un tempo di 1:38.495, valido per la seconda posizione.
Magnussen ha avuto il compito di iniziare la gara, perdendo una posizione durante la partenza. Il danese ha mantenuto la terza piazza a lungo, fino a una fase di virtual safety car dopo la quale non è riuscito a disattivare il limitatore di velocità, scivolando nelle retrovie della classifica anche a causa di un drive through dovuto a un contatto con un’altra vettura. Marciello è salito in macchina subito dopo, imprimendo un buon ritmo e recuperando terreno nei confronti dei rivali. Grazie alla strategia e alle numerose safety car, la BMW #15 è riuscita a risalire fino al sesto posto. Durante l’ultima sosta, il team ha deciso di non cambiare le gomme, guadagnando secondi preziosi e salendo al quarto posto, posizione nella quale la squadra ha terminato la gara.
Un ottimo inizio dunque per Raffaele Marciello e i suoi compagni, che lasciano il Qatar con 12 punti in classifica e come prima vettura alle spalle di una Ferrari che ha monopolizzato la corsa e il podio, mentre il prossimo appuntamento con il mondiale endurance sarà la 6h di Imola, il 20 aprile 2025 nel weekend di Pasqua.
